Dragon*Con 2012

DragonCon 2012 was amazing this year!  The Avengers costumes went over extremely well and when we finally made it to the Georgia Aquarium we were able to take some amazing shots.

Arriving by Thursday afternoon allowed us to get our rooms and badges in record time. (Walked right up to pre-registration booths, took less than 5 minutes! It was awesome.) We ended up back in our room wondering what we were going to do for the rest of the afternoon. We decided to go on an adventure - we fought demons, wandered lonely streets, climbed unimaginable heights, traveled to the end of the universe and, of course, saved the world, twice.

Dragon*Con Officially kicked off Friday at 10am - when the first panels started.
For celebrities I was able to make it to a Jason Momoa and a LOTR Panel and watched a Stargate and BSG panel on DCTV. I also made a few SF literature and writing panels. A good mix of the fun and the cerebral.
There's more! -->

Jason Momoa - he might have been a few beers into this one.

Lord of the Rings/Hobbit - Billy Boyd (Pippin), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli), Craig Parker (Haldir) & Silvester McCoy (Radagast the Brown)
I met a numerous celebrities in the Walk of Fame - 95% of them were very nice and awesome to meet. I might have caught one or two before they had fully recovered from the night before and so were not yet awake for the day. And one or two might have been a little grumpy that the person next to them was getting more attention.  ...Or they could just have a dour resting face.  But I think I managed to sound like a coherent, appreciative human being thankful for the hours of enjoyment their performances have brought into my life.

My Battlestar Boys - Michael Trucco, Jamie Bamber and James Callis.  This Dragon*Con - a celebration of beauty.
Picture
Cliff Simon - Ba'al from Stargate.  He was super nice, very good at his panels and works with a pitbull rescue - signature and picture monies went as donations. He showed us pics of his most recent adopted pit/boxer mix and it was fricken' adorable. Also, his voice is amazing...also, the rest of him too. #totalpackage

Grant Imahara, Mythbusters - also super nice. He emceed the Masquerade costume contest and did a marvelous job. Showed he was just as much a geek and a fan as the rest of us. Woot for awesome people.

Felicia Day is wonderfully kind and smart and the whole Guild is a great group.  Good people doing good things in the grand land of geekdom.

I met LeVar Burton...but don't take my word for it.

Rikki Simons - voice of Gir, Invader Zim

Aaron Ashmore - Smallville, Lost Girl, Warehouse 13

Saul Rubinek - Warehouse 13

Katee Sackhoff might have jumped up and squeed excitedly when she saw my dress and then immediately took a picture to send to her brother because she thought he would get a kick out of it. She then might have said she was going to get vintage Star Wars sheets for her guest bedroom. It might have made me smile the rest of the day.
Picture
Craig Parker - LoTR, Haldir - super nice, liked the dress, commented on having had the sheets as a kid. I might have offered to let him sleep on them again, you know, just for nostalgia's sake.
Picture
Lee Arenberg - Pirates of the Caribbean "ello, poppet", Once upon a Time - Grumpy
The other major part of Dragon*Con was costuming. I made two - a Loki Dress and a Star Wars Vintage Sheet dress. Both were a great success. We also went to the Georgia Aquarium.

I'm a zoo keeper. I currently work with Rhinos and it is awesome.

These are my random observations about the world...and I do mean random.  I write about what catches my interest and my imagination.

Just as a note: There is the possibility of the occasional curse word. I will not overuse - but those words have power when carefully placed.

To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams. ::: Giorgio de Chirico :::
